Welcome

"Understanding what drives us allows us to design our lives around our true passions and create the most awesome work-life balance possible."

Hi there, welcome to my website and thank you for taking the time to read about me. The purpose of this page is to gain an understanding of who I am so that we can collaborate more effectively.

To understand me in the simplest terms - I am "tech-savvy" - (people have referred to me as a geek 🙂I LOVE technology ) - and, I have a passion for seeing people develop; I thrive on energizing people to apply new skills, stimulating people to think broader and reach higher levels of performance and see things in a whole new way. I am an ICT-certified professional, a certified Adult educator and a licensed Collaboration Superpowers facilitator.

There is no doubt the world is changing rapidly and technology is a primary driver. For me, this change opens opportunities to examine disruptive and emerging technologies which are accelerating digital development. I engage with changes that can take advantage of the types of emerging disruptive technologies that interconnect to form ecosystems within a business infrastructure. A big part of this is the technologies that remove geographic distance and facilitate communication, collaboration, and productivity among a dispersed team. Remote/hybrid workforces are becoming increasingly prevalent, and I am keen to facilitate that growth in businesses.

Philosophy

I believe in and practice training that is aligned, integrated and strategic in both the organization’s goals and the individual’s development plan. My philosophy centers on learning and development being learner-centric and having a positive impact on Self, Other, Team and Organisation. I am dedicated to fostering innovative, engaging and unique learning experiences that incorporate effective and efficient uses of educational technology.

I’m an avid experimenter and always looking for ways to practice my creativity and design. Encountered with multiple learning styles I practice providing flexibility and support through my training & development programs.

My goal is to provide learning opportunities in a variety of formats, support the acquisition and demonstration of skills and development and have fun doing it.

Communication

  • My preference is email. I engage with hundreds of people every week and it can be difficult for me to remember conversation details. With email, I can easily keep track of topics and items of importance. I schedule email time so I can focus on the topics and responses, so don't expect an instant reply.

  • I'm ok with urgent unscheduled meetings, phone calls and "taps on the shoulder" for support. However, I do prefer planned scheduled meetings that have an agenda and goal. So, please understand if I request to schedule your "urgency" to gather the required information to better support you. It may only be an hour away from your initial call for help, but it helps me provide the best to you and still keep all my work on track.

  • My weeks are scheduled to create the ultimate time for my work. This works for me to allow me to manage my creativity, productivity and energy levels. I need to focus with the fewest distractions possible to get my best work done.

How I work best

  • I am brilliant in the virtual realm and prefer this to any other type of interaction. In fact, it is my passion to embolden and support the new normal of hybrid and remote working in as many organisations as possible.

  • I do my focus work (development, creating, etc...) best in the mornings and at my home office in my own space and with my own equipment.

  • I am great at live/face-to-face collaboration and love facilitating live/face-to-face training events. I am a great traveller and will travel to meet my client's needs but prefer these to be scheduled and planned - otherwise, it turns into a waste of time.

  • I am very receptive to positive feedback - but not being told that I "should be doing" something. To me that's not feedback, that's a directive.

My Quirks

  • I dislike wasting time - I need direction, focus and value in my activities.

  • I have the patience of a saint - so I have been told (and so I practice) - UNTIL I sense insincerity or a lack of integrity - I will turn off pretty quickly at that point.

  • I don't particularly appreciate being interrupted or trying to listen to people and have them interrupted. In my view, everyone gets the same chance to speak, and interrupting is just plain rude.

  • I am very straightforward and don't beat around the bush very often. I don't see the point, it is what it is and the truth is the truth.

  • I tend to be a solitary individual by choice and by nature. Socially, I can thrive around people if I find value in the time and interactions, my family always comes first and I can quite easily spend an enormous amount of time comfortably alone.

  • I love my sense of humour - if I can't laugh I find things too serious and stressful and sometimes use laughter as a shield for stressful situations

My Hours

I live in Auckland, New Zealand - the Southern Hemisphere 😎! I am an ex-pat American and have called Aotearoa home since 2001.

I do my best work in the morning but am accustomed to doing very odd hours as I have business globally. So I have a very flex schedule. Your best bet to contact me is always via email, however, I am very flexible if I know the situation.

If you live in New Zealand you can get me during normal work hours. For overseas clients, your best bet is to email me and we can work out a scheduled time to catch up.

Finally

I believe Disruptive technologies are not breakthrough technologies that make education better; rather they are innovations that make learning more relevant, exciting and engaging. They also create accessibility; making it possible for anyone to learn anything, anywhere.

I have a GREAT sense of humour

I'm a Dad joke king!

I love this quote, “Vision without execution… is just hallucination.”
People attribute it to everyone from Edison to Einstein and a recent TV commercial attributed it to Henry Ford. I've even heard of it traced back to a Japanese proverb that goes “Vision without action is a daydream, Action without vision is a nightmare.”
Wherever it originated, it makes an awesome point:
Vision is not enough to cultivate change, we need execution to see that change become real.
